Right in time for Halloween, the U.K’s heaviest afro-rock-soul-funk outfit – Hot Border Special – have descended on the legendary funk drummer Malcolm Catto‘s Quatermass studio in London, where he was in charge of recording the bands insanely groovy psychedelic, instrumental version of Michael Jackson‘s iconic tune Thriller!
Hot Border Special, who feature musicians who have played in and toured with the likes of Noisettes, Quantic Soul Orchestra, The Heliocentrics and Young Gun Silver Fox have had dance floors erupting in a frenzy whenever they played their blistering take on ‘Thriller’ live.
This studio cut is a rare thing that actually captures the full velocity of the live show!
Drawing influences from bands such as Mandrill and early Funkadelic and given Hot Border Special’s signature heaviness, a powerhouse afro style rhythm recorded by Malcolm Catto and Mastered by Shawn Lee & Pierre Duplan this cut is sure to cause some serious whiplash.
Their full length LP is coming out next year and we’re looking forward to it!
