The guitarist remains an incredible creative force, matching his songwriting and musicianship to a number of production credits. Combining with Jessie Buckley for a Mercury nominated album, he returns to solo guise on new album ‘Good Grief’.

Out on May 31st via 355 Recordings, the album is trailed by new song ‘Deep Emotions’, with its beautiful frailty matched to subtle assurance. Lyrically, the song takes you to a London landmark, and urges you to look at the stars.

A calming piece of music, Bernard writes…

A few years ago I went to the top of Primrose Hill one evening with hundreds of others in the hope we would see the stars align; amateur stargazers, humans yearning for a momentary release from our own complicated planet, a simple wondrous thrill impossible to touch in our own lives.

It reminded me of how I was filled with fear for showing emotion during times when life overwhelmed and bewildered. ‘Deep Emotions’ is letting go three decades of inhibition “…like a river running out to sea / when they take me over, well I’m just harder to reach”.
