“Dancing with Ghosts is the title track of the album, which gave me the direction into ghostly and fantasy worlds for the whole record.
I composed it in March 2022 while working in a very remote studio in the mountains, a former sanatorium and baths which used to be very popular until the beginning of the 20th century in Europe.
Although the building was renovated and transformed into art studios, some traces of its past history remain, making my thoughts wander and create stories.
I liked the idea that every time we go somewhere we are leaving a bit of ourselves, whatever it might be called, and I started imagining events that could happen in my room. “Dancing with Ghosts” is the story of two lovers who fall in love but because of many circumstances can’t be together. They decide to accept their destiny but still meet as ghosts to celebrate their feelings.
When I composed the track I felt it would be great to show it to my big songwriting hero – Patrick Watson – whose songs I grew up with and which helped make my first composer’s steps. To my surprise Patrick liked the song a lot and agreed to contribute to it. I sent him a demo version and he came back with an answer not much later, sending me stems including his voice and ghostly sounds. He asked me “if it’s not too exaggerated”, but it was just perfect. Patrick managed to bring to the song the real breath of the unreal and carried the track to a place I was dreaming of.”
