Salad are a UK-based indie band formed in London, England in 1992 by Marijne van der Vlugt, Paul Kennedy, Pete Brown and Rob Wakeman. They released their hit debut album Drink Me in 1995 featuring singles Drink the Elixir and Motorbike to Heaven, which can still be heard cheering up the soundwaves on BBC Radio 6Music.

Follow up Ice Cream (1997) was produced by Donald Ross Skinner, with Charley Stone joining as a live member in 1996. They ended up in the band ‘for real’ when Salad reformed in 2017!

Salad are back and exquisite new album The Salad Way. It is the band’s first album of new studio material as Salad for over 21 years. Featuring 13 new tracks, The Salad Way sees a band reborn and on top form. Under The Wrapping The Paper is the first single and comes at you like a relentless post-punk stream of consciousness with a cheeky Motown beat. Marijne’s ‘conversational’ vocals are marinated with searing guitars and throbbing bass, with some impressionistic piano occasionally creeping in and out, from under the wrapping paper, of course.

Press Cuts

“Salad sound like the best new band in the country on this album.  It isn’t a record that has been made to please, or appease, people who liked “On a Leash” back in 199-whatever.  This isn’t an attempt to get the band back together or to cash in on a wave of nineties nostalgia.”

“Packed with “hooks, crazy guitar bits and a big chorus”, the song marks a brilliantly-confident, BBC Radio-endorsed return from the band, fronted by vocalist Marijne van der Vlugt and featuring lead guitarist Charley Stone (MX Tyrants, W*llstonekraft), alongside fellow original guitarist and bassist Paul Kennedy and Pete Brown, with Donald Ross Skinner now in the drummer’s seat.”
