Since we opened the doors at Spinning Discs Sheffield in April 2015 we’ve been welcomed by the Community around us in Meersbrook (just over a mile south of the city centre) and beyond.
We started off with a reasonably small number of new titles on vinyl in the shop racks with limited opening hours – just two nights in the week and Saturday.
Thanks to all the support that we’ve had over the years we’re now open (when the current situation eases off) six days of the week with late night opening until 7.30pm Tuesday to Friday. In June we’re moving to a larger shop just up the road from where we are, with double the floor space. We’ll be increasing our selection across the board with new release, reissue and select second hand vinyl.
We’ve hosted some great live and intimate ‘front room’ gigs over the years with the likes of Jon Boden, Nick JD Hodgson, Lio, Skinny Pelembe and others – and we’re planning on hosting even more in our new location with more space!
Since the lockdown came in to force and we had to temporarily close the doors on the shop it’s given us the opportunity to improve our website shop and we’ve seen more sales to help us ride through the storm. We’ve even been using some of our allotted Government exercise time to drop off vinyl to some of our lovely local customers – to keep them stocked up and hopefully help them with some musical comfort in these interesting times.
Love Record Stores is a great way for vinyl lovers to continue to support us and the other great independent record stores around the U.K. with some amazing releases on offer. We couldn’t wait for the 20th June – when we’d be joining in and opening up the re-located Spinning Discs Sheffield Record Shop too!
