We are a record shop in Leeds city centre that’s been operating since 1971.

Although we are proud to be independent, we’re strong believers in a community of spirit, both with customers and with like minded businesses local and further afield.   That spirit has been really important in dealing with the events of 2020 – that sense of mutual support and how you can help each other.  We have been energised by the support, patience and goodwill of our customers, and have enjoyed getting their music to them however we can – by post, home delivery or whatever works best and most safely.  When people work together they work best.

Jumbo isn’t a specialist shop in the conventional sense – we sell rock, pop, indie, soul, electronica, reggae, country, jazz, blues and folk musics from around the world – and the music we’re into reflects that.  So anything from Stereolab to Eugene McDaniels to Steve Gunn to Guided By Voices to Aretha Franklin to Arctic Monkeys to Bo Diddley to Madness to Damien Jurado to Ali Farka Toure to the National to Dennis Brown and all points in between.   We also love finding out what it is that other people like about their favourite music and think that is one of the secrets of a successful record shop.

We’re missing our customers but glad that we have been able to keep contact with so many via email, post, phone or home deliveries.  It’s a hard time for everyone but with some bright spots and some optimism for the future and how we can change things for the better in the long run.
