We’ve asked Submarine Cat some questions about their label & their experience running a business during lockdown. Read what they had to say below and check out their website here.

1. Who are you? Tell us a bit about your label!

We’re Submarine Cat Records AKA. Subcat! We’re an independent label which has been on the scene for over two years now. We have team members in different areas across the UK and EU but our studio HQ is based in London. We currently have 5 artists on our roster and are ready for the year of 2022 to be even bigger and better!

2. Can you suggest 5 of your favourite artists from your label for someone who may not have heard of you before, to listen to?

Alabama 3

She Drew The Gun

Belot

Curse Of Lono

John Murry

2. Is there a specific style of music that your label represents, or are there various? If so, can you name the main genres?

Our label represents various genres! We love to have a bit of everything all under one roof, from representing UK Americana to Alt-Rock and also dabbling in some Bedroom Pop. We’re also open to other genres for future signings.

3. What do you enjoy most about working in music?

We love getting involved with the wonderful and whacky side of our artists ideas. Whether it’s going to a giant ball pit with Belot or getting buried in sand for a Curse Of Lono music video – we’re all for it!

4. How has the pandemic changed the way you run your label?

Well, we had just launched a new label a month before the world went into lockdown! So it forced us to be creatives in a lot of ways that we hadn’t imagined and gave us time to think about what kind of label we wanted to be, and refine our brand. We also stayed in very close touch with our artists, and even decided to do a zoom cast on Facebook Live with them which was super fun!

5. What are you most looking forward to this upcoming year? (e.g. any specific artists / releases / tours you’re looking forward to?)

This year we’re super excited about festival season, particularly The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Alabama 3 also have their upcoming UK tour which kicks off in March.

6. ANYTHING ELSE you’d like our followers to know?
