What prompted you to start the label?

I had been working many years (1982-2000) at major labels, I have seen them work catalogue, and sub labels such as Blue Note, Real World, ECM.
Therefore I wanted to create my own vision of these type of labels combined to make a catalogue of timeless music.

What has been your proudest moment of the label so far?

There have been so many to mention, but here are a few:

Having a #1 single in Germany (Aura Dione)

Working with Jan Luc Ponty in 2007

Most recently being at The Be Svendsen in-store at Rough Trade East

Which three to five albums would you recommend to someone who maybe doesn’t know the label and wants to start checking it out?

Be Svendsen – Between A Smile And A Tear

Jacob Gurevitsch – An introduction / Lovers in Paris

Nordsø & Theill

Cantoma / Ambala (aka Phil Mison)

I also recommend the many Compilations we have released, as they feature a good selection of our artists.

If money was no object, which artist(s) – past or present – would you love to sign to the label, and why?

Daft Punk

Pink Floyd

Amy Winehouse

Art of Noise

Penguin Café Orchestra

I really love the records they have made & generally I love artists who write great, well crafted pop music, which at first may not be immediate.

If you had one piece of advice for someone wanting to start a label, what would it be?

Make sure you are working with people/artists who are in it for love of making & delivering great music to the world.  Also you need good accounting on the business side as it’s hugely important to pay the creators for their work.
