Walking the tightrope between technical wonder & minimalist subtlety, Parker lifted my world earlier this year with this warm & mesmerising treat of an album, combining improvised avant-garde jazz with beautifully layered & textured electronic samples & soundscapes.
Not a million miles at times from Yesterday’s New Quintet or J Dilla with it’s ranging electronic weaving, & at other times making nods to the likes of John Coltrane or Joe Henderson, but still keeping within the parameters of that unmistakeable Tortoise-esque style that never tires, this is an emotionally tinged & captivating gem that effortlessly crosses various genres!
